How to traceroute on Windows and MacOS

This article provides you with instructions to run a traceroute from your local computer.

 

Windows OS 

Step 1 – Type cmd on the Start menu to open a Command Prompt.  

 

Step  2 –    When the Command Prompt dialog box opens, type in the following:

 

> tracert example.com (specify the domain name or IP address)

 


 

 

Mac OS X

Step  1–  On your Mac Desktop, click the Search Icon in Top Right corner of the Screen (Magnifying Glass icon), as seen in the image below:

Step  2 –   Type in Network Utility, and press the Enter key to open the Utility

Step  3 –   Click on the TraceRoute tab and Enter in your IP or Domain/Host Name and click Trace!
